The current prediction is freezing rain/sleet/snow from morning til afternoon.

that would be great if schools were closed, but I'd be surprised if we even have a delay. I work at a private school and my kids also go to school there, so I'd be super happy for even a delay. Honestly I doubt there will be anything but rain. Everyone seems to hype up storms around here and so I will believe it when I see it

You probably won't see any action until the morning.

"Horrendous" seems like a overly strong term to use.

I wouldn't doubt that there'd be a delay -- it'd be prudent if the decision-makers think there's even a slight chance of slick roads (i mean, more than what a usual rain creates). Vdot is out with trucks that spread the liquid de-icer stuff, I heard on tv news.

But to you folks planning to hit the roads (or skies) for your Thanksgiving getaway, I hope things go smoothly.
(And I hope none of the drivers who were speeding all around me today -- in Woodbridge, in Fairfax -- will not be on the roads near you! So many people were in such a hurry today!)

It's funny that one of the "similar threads" on this is one about Fairfax County schools being closed...from 2011. However, the devil in me wants to bump it for confusion purposes...

Keep in mind that the forecasters on TV are looking to pump up their ratings. The scarier they make it sound the more people watch. At 4 am my car is just a little wet from rain.

Despite all the hype, I really don't think today's weather will be a big deal.
