No, Osbourn Park I believe is one of the highest rated high schools (according to great schools) in Eastern PWC. I think the ones further west in the Gainesville area are rated higher, but compared to other Eastern PWC high schools like Gar-Field or Freedom, Osbourn Park is rated far better.

What I meant by dropoff is that almost all the elementary and middle schools in Lake Ridge are rated in the 7-8-9 range, but the high schools are a bit lower.

Note that school districts in NOVA are county-wide. What you may be most interested in is the high school "pyramid" under which elementary and junior high schools fall.

Uhhhh....

Ok, school districts are county wide. Wasn't aware of that, good info.

So when you say "pyramid", I should worry about what elementary schools and jr. highs are well regarded within that school district?

Bristow has jumped into the lead. I'll have to dig down into the Bristow threads on this site.

Others here may have more informed knowledge on that...but generally speaking, high schools are reflection of the elementary and junior high schools that feed into them.

I would look at all three school assignments for an area.

Stafford -- Colonial Forge
Western Prince William -- any of Osbourn Park, Battlefield, Brentsville, or Patriot

PWC is building a new high school in between Woodbridge and Manasas. Based on the income levels there and the ratings of the probable elementary and middle feeder schools, it will probably be high performing. The areas west from where Old Bridge meets PW parkway by-in-large are pretty nice, safe, and have real yards. I know rentals in our area are between $2,700 - 3,200. Commuting within Woodbridge is fairly easy, especially if you can stay off Old Bridge Road.

I would also suggest W. Springfield, specifically in the West Springfield High and Lake Braddock secondary districts. Another good reverse commute to Woodbridge.

We live in Westridge, which is off of Old Bridge Road. We are very happy with the neighborhood and schools.

Us too. It is a great area and the schools are good. I can't imagine why someone working in Woodbridge would choose to move somewhere else that makes them have a commute and costs more for less house/land when there are great affordable areas to live in here.
