Skapov - I did not mean to insult your family and say ALL poor people are drug addicts, no father, etc. I am sorry. You are right - I should not make generalizations - I am sure there are tons of drug addicted, gang banging, fatherless rich people. And since your Father was employed for 20 years - in my book - he was doing great and not poor at all. I totally respect his service to his country. I was referring to poor - on welfare - no Father - on drugs.
And you ask - What am I doing? Well - one of my sons is adopted and I was also considering fostering a child in need. WHAT ARE YOU DOING? How dare you judge ME! Have you adopted or fostered?

Anyone who wants to be a teacher had better be able to deal with stress 24/7. Gangs are not a problem among elementary school kid's in Fairfax County.

That may change soon. SROs (FCPD officer assigned to a school) are about to be eliminated. The FCPD gang unit is also on the chopping block....

Do your research!
I know that this post is a little old but I really felt the need to respond. I have been a resident of Lorton for 15 years and have a daughter that just started Hayfield Middle School. Prior to that, she attended Lorton Station. She had no problems what so ever while attending school there.
I read all the responses on this post and was offend by one of the responses that happen to list the community I live in as SECTION 8. First things first. No full community is SECTION 8. Section 8 is a voucher program given by the county and people who receive these vouchers are free to rent from any homeowner willing to accept their voucher. (Meaning one of your neighbors in "Kingstown" may be on SECTION 8). Second thing is none of the communities that were listed are HUD housing. Just in case you are not clear on that. HUD Housing is when the whole community is funded by the government.
A community is what you make it. All people who live in those areas in Lorton are not poor and on drugs. All of my neighbors are hardworking people who love their neighborhood and the people who live it. Most of them are owners who have lived here since the community was built in the 70's
So with that being said I encourage anyone who reads this and is interested in moving to Lorton to come and have a look and really truly don't believe everything you read. Some people just don’t have a clue

Maybe you should just do what the other half of Lorton did, and start calling it "Fairfax Station."
