Wasn't there a big scandal several years ago about the boundaries changing to force kids out of Madison/Oakton and into under enrolled SL. People had just paid about 150K more for their kids to go to Oakton, and got an unpleasant surprise.
I'll let you all look up the numbers, but I think you would get more house for the money, better schools, less crime, and shorter commutes in West Springfield. A good friend of mine, loves reston, and paid 470K for a contemporary TH near the new Metro. His back patio looks right into a Sec 8 project. He used to live in Africa, so he chats with them occasionally, as they are refugees from Somolia. YMMV.

I like West Springfield as well, but with the large number of jobs now in the Dulles Corridor, it's not necessarily a given that you will have a better commute from West Springfield.

It was not a big scandal. It was a big re-districting. Re-districtings are always contentious but have been occurring regularly for many years. People are often VERY upset to find out that the School Board doesn't give a **** what they paid for their house or why they paid that amount.

I agree, Reston would be a better choice with a job in Reston or IAD. West Springfield somewhat better for DC, with more options. Tysons, maybe a toss-up.
