Real Estate Attorney/Lawyer
Anybody know any in Alexandria? We didn't realize until recently that although we are married and have the mortgage jointly, the deed is in husbands' name alone (he bought the house before we married) - we want it changed "in case" - I tried googling, etc. but can't get good info. - do we need an attorney/lawyer (interchangeable terms?)

Look in the yellow pages under Title Companies, all of them have an attorney on staff who can advise you of the different ways to hold title, prepare a new deed for you, and record it.

If you want to contact me, I'll give you the name of an attorney I work with and respect tremendously. I tried to send you an email but you do not accept them in your set-up.

Maybe, but they need it done "quickly"
[Honestly, I don't know].

I can receive direct mail on this site.
On another note, I looked in the Alex. Yellow pages under Title companies, most names sound "sleezy"
We just want title held in both names w/right of survivorship (I think, from what I've read up on).

I will recommend MBH title, they have many offices throughout NoVa and are by no means "sleazy".
In answer to other responses it is a "quit claim" deed they are talking about, not "quick claim".
If you are married, there are advantages to holding title as Tenants by the Entirety, rather than Joint with rights of survivorship. In any case, I am not an attorney and an attorney will be the best person to advise you.

Thanks Margery, I'll look into that company (as well as how to hold title).
