Looks like MWAA is announcing that the software corrections are made, and testing from MWAAs side is complete. Transition to WMATA to be announced shortly, will keep this thread up to date.

I read Silver Line article in today's Post. Hand off to Metro is February, but there will be a testing trial run on Jan 25. While there is no official date, it looks like a summer opening date for service.

I think based on the count off that DiCaro did it would be early May not summer.

Jan 25 + 15 days (MWAA review) = Feb 10th (monday) turn over to WMATA

Feb 10th + 90 days (WMATA) = May 12th a likely start date based on current schedule

That of course depends on anything else happening in the testing which will take time to fix as is with all things.

But it's easier to make existing tunnels bigger than it is to dig new ones.

At some point metro won't be able to support the number of riders it gets. Then what?
No, an express track is a waste. Metro needs less interlining, which is a more technical term for "separate Blue Line." That and better signalling, since London can get 32 trains per hour with SelTrac. Even factoring in branches/switches, 28tph should be possible. What a separate Blue Line would enable would be redirecting all current Rosslyn-Foggy Bottom traffic onto the Orange and Silver Lines, meaning far more capacity for the segment between Rosslyn and East Falls Church, in turn reducing crowding conditions to some extent.

Also, the Silver Line won't have any effect on train frequency with the exception of East Falls Church to Vienna, which will see a slight reduction in service. However, the shift in riders to the Silver Line may mean that increased crowding could be mitigated to a degree.

No updates on this for a while. Here is an article from earlier this week about what needs to be done for the Silver Line to open:
What needs to be done to finish the Silver Line?

At this point Labor day? Please? Shame this project devolved into, "its your problem" type discussions which held up the completion several months. It had nothing to do with actual construction, it had everything to do with who was liable to do the work and holding out for the longest possible time available as leverage.

Yet another reason why contract penalties should be way more strict, make it so these 1 million dollar fixes on a 3 billion dollar project aren't what holds it up. Penalties should have started at the 2 month mark, plenty of flexibility, and should be much more than 25k per day, again maximum penalties of 5 to 10 million on a 3 billion dollar project? That won't scare any company.

Lovely, just lovely: more incompetent-contractor/incompetent-government-agency bickering.
