I am selling my house in Woodbridge and getting an apartment.

I have started to look and am shocked at how much the rent goes for.

More than my mortgage.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a clean, safe, upgraded apartment on the 1st floor (so I can open my sliding glass door and go outside)?

I need the following:

1) 2 cats
2) 1 bedroom with den (I have a side business and need the room)
3) w/d in unit
4) high speed internet (preferable FIOS)
5) Spacious closets
6) energy efficient windows/doors
7) no big dogs (I don't want to be around big dogs)

My budget is around $1100 - $1300 per month

I looked at the new apartments built just north of Rippon Landing/Dale Bldg on Rte 1. I am SHOCKED that this place wants $15.00 per month to park on the premises, $25.00 (or more, I forgot) per pet per month. (WOW!!!).

I can understand a pet deposit but really, more rent for a pet? First time I have heard of that.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Sure you don't want to keep your house???

Apartment rents have always been pretty high, even in Woodbridge. I really don't think you will find all you are looking for at a lower price (and have the place not be a dump). It has become the new thing in years to charge more for pets (hotels do the same). The landlords realize that when you vacate, there will be extra cleaning involved. They used to take a security deposit on that but I think there were issues with them not being enough to cover a lot of pet damages.

Yes, I'm selling the house.

I have tried to get a few apartment complexes in Woodbridge to give me an idea of what the average heat/AC bill is per month. This is a major factor on where I move.

Some complexes have gone completely non smoking even in your apartment so if that is the reason you want to be able to step out your door make sure you know the rules.

Maybe try Rolling Brook and Springwoods which are off Old Bridge Road in the Lake Ridge area.
