I have healthy teeth. I only need to do teeth cleaning twice a year. However, my last dentist insisted on taking my x-ray.

I used to have x-ray taken often, and the dentists always told me that I had healthy teeth. Recently I realized there is a slight risk of radiation associated with frequent x-rays.

Any recommendation for a good hygienist who doesn't insist on x-ray near Fairfax/Vienna?

Be careful because you are going down a dangerous path. X-rays can save your life. Even better they can save you from a life of disfigurement from some type of oral disease/cancer/worse.

Just get the x-rays and don't worry about it.

Also there is radiation everywhere. You go outside you get radiation. You fly a plane, you get even more radiation. We live in a radiated world. Don't let CNN or Dr. Oz lead you on a path of fear.

Be happy and smile when you get x-rays!

Default I hope this helps.

It may be possible to have your previous dentist transfer your old x-rays. I am not 100% certain of this, but I remember someone mentioning it at one time when I was considering a change in dentists. On occasion, dental students will provide cheaper dental care at the schools where they receive their education. Is this something you might consider?

If you are a female of child bearing age you can always tell them you might be pregnant and then they won't take x-rays.

I know Dr. Paesani at Nova Dental Studio in Falls Church does do x-rays, but they're about the nicest people ever. I'm sure if you asked to not have them taken, they would respect your wishes.

Dr. Musmar of Reflection Dental is the BEST dentist I have ever met. He is so easy going -tries to save you money when he can and is extremely gentle - His office is in Alexandria on Little River Turnpike.

frequent x-rays are a rip-off. My dentist does the cleaning herself, it's 16 usd. She is so thorough that she will spot a cavity visually and with the ice pick thing. If you have pain, they will do an x-ray of that tooth for 6 usd. If you need an implant, they will send you to either the University Dental School or a private lab for a 360 degree mouth x-ray with the German equipment. That cost 9.25 usd. Sorry that won't help you much, but will give you an idea of the magnitude of the dental ripoff in NoVa. It must be working; because they call the country, the "Land of Smiles."
