Not sure about McLean (there's something over there near Vienna or something) but there is this sort of "upscale" bowling alley in Bethesda that advertises, I think, in The Washingtonian Magazine. [Not sure if you are a league bowler, or looking for a fun night out with family ...].

I believe there's a Bowl America in Merrifield and in Herndon. I don't recall the exact location of the center in Merrifield/Fairfax. The Bowl America in Herndon is close to the intersection of Dranesville Rd and Leesburg Pike (Rt 7).
Bowl America: Locations
I can't tell you whether it's decent. It's been about 10 years since I went to the one in Merrifield.

Yes, Merrifield is the one I thought was Vienna. I have a friend who was in a women's league there. She was sort of a Neiman Marcus shopper, so it couldn't be too dicey.

The way Merrifield is being redeveloped into skyscrapers, I wasn't too sure that it was still there or that it would be there much longer. AMF is the name of the other bowling chain.

There is (or was) a Bowl America in Falls Church, but the website indicates that the location is "temporarily closed."
I've been to the bowling alley in Bethesda, whose name escapes me -- Strike Bethesda or something? -- for a birthday party. Didn't much care for the scantily clad cocktail waitresses mingling with the kids.
There used to be a great duckpin bowling alley in Falls Church, just down the road from Bowl America, but it sadly closed a few years ago.
McLean is not really a bowling mecca....

That said, and McLean will probably never be a bowling mecca, but I've been to other cities where they had these really fun bowling alleys that catered a little more to kids and young people. Northern VA is missing the trend with these smoke-filled alleys!

As a retirement gig, I drive a FCPS school bus and we do trips to bowling alleys all the time....they go bowling as part of high school phys ed classes!
They go in the morning so they have the place to themselves.
Anyway, I hadn't been in a bowling alley in 30 years or more when I took this bus job. It really is pretty cool for the kids with the light shows and LOUD music. LOL
Let's see, I've been to the Bowl America on Guinea Rd in Burke....AMF Centreville on 29...the one at Fairfax Circle...and the one on 236 in Annandale.
