Some reps were going door-to-door in my neighborhood this evening saying that Republic has bought out AAA trash service. They were offering a good deal -- $22/mo for the first year with one month free, $24/mo second year and $26/mo third year. That's a third cheaper than what I'm paying American for service now, but I have been satisfied with American (I had AAA in the past and disliked them immensely).

Anyone know anything about Republic? It's a good deal, but if they're just AAA in a new truck, I won't bother.

I was under the impression that AAA Trash was always under Republic. I had to contact a central office when disputing a billing error on their part that took 8 months to correct. I've since switched to American. You are correct that the deal they are offering is much lower. One thing I've noticed in our neighborhood is that Republic picks up the trash bins directly through a "mechanical arm" on the truck (no garbage collectors; just the driver). It's cheaper to require less employees. On a windy day like today, the mess of garbage all over the front lawns is awful.

Been with AAA since 2008. Never had a reason to call their Cust Service dept. Also, never had an incident about garbage spilling on to my yard. At the end of the day, I believe, all these companies are alike. I'd just go with whoever is offering you the best deal.

I have it on pretty good authority that the local family that founded AAA, sold it to Republic Industries, a large national company, quite a while back.

After a period of time (probably until a no-compete clause expired) the same family founded American Disposal.

Just be glad that they both exist in this market. If one or the other goes belly up or abandons the local residential market....prices will skyrocket

We use American but would happily switch for a lower price. It's garbage. I don't have a whole lot of specific requirements I look for in a trash service. I might be more discerning if I had large items for bulk pickups, lawn waste, etc., but we are fine just fitting our trash in our bins.

I'm just fortunate for two pickup days per week. My family in Virginia Beach has trash service through the city (it's included with their water bill), and they only get trash pickup once per week.
