State of Virginia has a website that lists all school's standard test scores. It is not very user friendly. Each time it takes me more than fifteen minutes to dig it out through multiple layers of links. You can download test result into excel spread sheet. Jeb77 in the forum probably can give you the URL since he/she is really the expert in terms of academic performance of schools.

A short cut is to use schooldigger.com. They rank schools based on multiple-year test results. They are not perfect because other factors such as sports etc are not considered in the ranking. Nonetheless, the ranking is considered valid by most (although not all) people.

Purcelville is a much quicker and easy commute than Bristow. There would be traffic basically the entire route between Bristow and Chantilly.

Also beware: Loudoun County Schools is debating whether or not to close Lincoln, Aldie, Hamilton and Hillsboro elementary schools.

Just curious since greatschools also uses test scores and compares to other VA schools. Patriot HS ranks a 9 where the Purcellville HS ranks an 8. All the ES rank very high here as well.

So I can assume that when you throw out "better" you actually mean you have done the research and there is an appreciable difference in the school districts to throw out comments like that.

I don't know what formula greatschools uses to rank schools. But I know they consider something else other than standard testing scores. For example, lincoln elementary has slightly better testing scores than round hill. Both are very good schools in Loudoun. Greatschools rated Lincoln a 9 but Round Hill a 10. So they apparently factored in other elements. For high schools, here are the SAT scores for 2012. Patriot was too new to be listed. But Loudoun Valley in Purcellville was only behind very good schools in Fairfax, Arlington, and one school in Falls Church. The PWC HS with the highest average SAT in 2012 was Battlefield, lower than the average score of LCPS. Maybe in 2014 when Patriot has SAT scores available, the picture will be different. We'll find out in four or five months.

On the other hand, Bristow apparently has added many great schools since I moved out years ago. I'm glad to find that out.

I live in Bristow and work in Chantilly. Average commute to work is 45 mins, average commute home is 37 minutes. Purcellville is almost twice the distance, so it's giong to take longer.

Hwy 28 north of Dulles airport can get congested in the evening.

After 4 years in the area, I'd give Leesburg a good hard look.

Well, that stuns me considering I work in the Fair Lakes area and typically leave at 7:30 and it takes 40-45 minutes. I leave between 5-6 and it still takes at least 40 minutes.

When my husband worked off 28, he told me it could take 40 minutes just to get to 66 in the evening.

That's why I don't take 28. There are faster ways to get to 66 at 5:00 pm.

Why does is stun you? This morning took 47 minutes from Sudley Manor Safeway to Willard Rd, and that was in the rain.

well maybe because Fair Lakes is closer than Willard Road and it took me 45 minutes this morning

Please share the best route to avoid 28 if one works well past McLearen Rd.
