I would recommend schools that feed into the following High Schools: McLean, Langely, Marshall, Lake Braddock, Robinson, Chantilly. Anything in Oakton, Vienna is great too. Stay away from Annandale. I understand West Springfield is still 'okay' but I would not want to go there nor send my kids there.

Why?

A ranking of schools would be completely subjective. What criteria would you use. Test scores? Demographics? ESL? Proportion of free lunches(poor kids)? Crime? All of them combined? I understand you want to buy in a good school district for resale, but I think you're overthinking it. There are some schools that have a lower reputation in the area and I'm sure you can figure out which ones by searching this forum but for the most part they are all good.

Things change too. Honestly if you don't have kids and are just looking for resale purposes, you could end up doing better buying in a less desirable school district like a Falls Church HS for example. That pyramid used to have a bad rep but has been steadily improving and in 10 years who knows, it could be thought of as on par with Marshall, Madison, etc. But you got a discount.

Really? Woodson HS in Annandale is always at the top for all those lists that come out for ranked High Schools in Virginia

Even more amazing is that it sold for $492K (!) in 2006 and was foreclosed on barely even two years later. From some other pictures the kitchen could use updating (looks 1990s) and that could easily be a $20K job to update it to the level of the OP house.

Why not West Springfield?

Looks like a flip to me. We looked at a house on that street a few years ago. some houses are starting to look a little run down.

Oh for heaven's sake. While I think that most school rankings are pretty flawed, the US News and World Report ranking of Virginia high schools puts West Springfield at #9. If you're looking at Fairfax County schools, the only ones ranked higher are TJ, Madison, Oakley, McLean and Woodson. I'm not trying to argue that West Springfield is head and shoulders above the schools you've listed, but how in heaven's name can you be so dismissive of it when it outranks half the schools on your list? The fact is that Fairfax County has pretty awesome schools overall, and West Springfield absolutely can hold its figurative head high.

According to my favorite real estate site (other than city-data), that property was sold on 5/16 for $395K.

Um, OK, but your recommendations are worthless without providing some context. Most people would consider West Springfield a very nice area with excellent schools.
