True, but some branches are getting rid of their self-serve machines because of maintenance issues. The Brambleton branch doesn't have one anymore and the Broadlands one is broken every time I go there, so I finally found the Dulles 28 branch one in good condition.

One time I had a machine give me a gift certificate for about about 40 or 50 cents less than what I thought I had, which was a very small percentage of the total amount. I didn't want to second guess it over a couple of quarters so I called it even. Just don't feed large amounts of coins in all at once. Go slowly. Also, it will spit out any coins which it cannot read.

More accurate than I am, I'm sure! I, too, have generally been off by a few cents from my count--but it has gone both ways (one time I came in 35 cents lower than I thought, the next time I had, I think, 44 cents more than I'd expected). I'm particularly impressed with the Coinstar machines that allow one to swipe one's Starbucks gift card and automatically (automagically, even!) transfer the balance directly into one's Starbucks account. It's like giving a free loan to the Starbucks corporation! (Actually, it is, but it's worth it, IMHO.)

Correct, and that means ANY type of account with them. I have a TD Ameritrade trading account and that was good enough for them to waive the fee. You don't need a checking or savings account with them.
