I was just in the Hampton Roads area a few weeks ago and I saw a lot of them.

I don't really see them much in Northern Virginia with the exception of Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania....

When I was a kid it was one of my favorite flags in the history books, I thought it was totally cool. For 239 years that flag has represented the sentiments of people who gave birth to this nation - "Don't tread on me, because while I may be small, and sitting here quietly, if I strike out at you, I can and will destroy you." It is a valid historic symbol of the fighting spirit of those that fought against tyranny. Now that rich shared history should be dismissed because of a 5 year association with a political party that hijacked it?

A little about the Gadsen flag: Gadsden flag - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I see Gadsen flag license plates every now and again during my travels through Alexandria and Fairfax County, including, ironically, this morning. Like others here, I associate their renewed emergence with the Tea Party and otherwise staunch Republicans. Whether said stance is considered extreme or not is certainly a matter of opinion and beyond the scope of this geographically-based forum.

That said, I think most everyone, no matter their political persuasion is horrified at what happened in Las Vegas. I'd imagine that Tea Party supporters in particular would repudiate the grotesque way that the Gadsen flag was used.

It's undeniable that the Tea Party, extreme anti-government "Patriot" groups, and "sovereign citizens" have adopted the Gadsden flag as their emblem. I find it rather humorous that these anti-government folks in Virginia are buying state issued license plates to express their opposition to the government. I guess it makes these people feel free from oppression when they drive their $40,000 trucks to their job in Fairfax as a government contractor.

In bold.
Your "in bold" response is both irrelevant and nonsensical, as you are quoting two different people. I am not the OP.

Why would anyone want anything even the slightest bit controversial on their vehicle?

Aren't there enough vandals and/or crazies out there as it is. Why risk attracting their attention to your ride?

Nawww, gimme the plain vanilla license plate with a random number on it!
