It is supposedly less than 60. As Miami University showed in 1997, it isn't that big of a change to Redhawks or something similar like Redbirds.

I don't understand when context stopped mattering. How can anyone look at the logo ... a very distinguished looking chief, and think that the name is being used in a derogatory manner? It's not cartoonish or a caricature (like Chief Wahoo).

I say leave them alone and worry about more important things.

You know, I think even the most die-hard fans might be in favor of this. As much as they hate the idea of losing the Redskins name, they're probably united in their greater hatred of Snyder!

Potomacs
I wonder how people would feel about changing the name but keeping the logo? Perhaps that's a compromise? Would that remove enough negative connotation to calm the critics?

I believe that the current logo is more representative of a Plains Indian than of an East Coast Indian. I think that a logo that is a more accurate depiction of a Potomac tribesman would go well with the change of the team name.

I think the only way a compromise would work would be to keep the existing logo, even if it's geographically inaccurate. I'm not sure that's a priority. Being deemed inoffensive seems to be the important thing.

Afterall, there are no bears in Chicago, panthers in North Carolina, or jaguars in Florida.

Just leave the Native American imagery behind. It seems like a fair common ground for all parties. Keep Redskins, keep the fight song, keep uniforms, keep colors etc. Remove NA imagery and go back to the 'R' logo or something new that is similar.

Redskins refers to the football team that wears red(burgundy) nothing more. You salvage a lot of merchandise this way too.

I don't think it's the imagery that people find offensive though. It's the name they are opposed to.

You're missing my point. Geographical accuracy is not a priority in the NFL.
