Hi,

Does anyone know of any family-friendly and child-friendly activities in Winchester, VA? We have some indoor playgrounds in the Pittsburgh area where I will be moving from, but I don't see anything like that in Winchester. I have a toddler and a baby, so we would like to know of some activities for him/them to keep the shock of moving from impacting too much of his life.

Thanks for the help as always!

Discovery Children's Museum -- Shenandoah Discovery Museum - A Museum for Children : Shenandoah Discovery Museum

There's also Jim Barnett Park -- City of Winchester, VA | Parks and Recreation | Parks and Recreation

Library story hour -- Handley Regional Library:*Home

These might be too much for a toddler but as the children get older:

For a day trip -- http://m.luraycaverns.com

Does the child like Dinosaurs? -- Dinosaur Land | Step Into the World of the Prehistoric Past

Have fun!

Also check out the activities offered through the Shenandoah Conservatory Arts Academy, and the orchards in the area. There are wonderful playgrounds at the elementary schools, too. We took swimming lessons at Jim Barnett. And if you will be using daycare, check our Shenandoah University's child care center -- we loved it. Kidz PLay is a fun inflatables play space. There aren't any indoor playgrounds that I'm aware of, though. Not common down here; I can't remember ever seeing one in VA.

Thanks! That's a very helpful bit of info, there. There's an indoor playground in Ashburn (Chibis) that we stumbled across once when in that area, but that's a bit of a hike for an afternoon playtime. Thanks for the tips, though!

everyone gave you some great ideas! We love to go to Marker Miller Orchards (in Winchester) in the fall for apple picking. They have a yearly fall festival (not sure on what they call it exactally), but my kids love it. We go every year.

Also if you can get out for a date with your husband for a day, yesterday we were out in Harpers Ferry, WV (very close, we live in Leesburg and it took us about 30 minutes to get there), they have adventure park where they have zip lining or tubing down the river and hiking trails. It's beautiful out here!

There are facilities, programs, classes, camps from the City of Winchester's Parks and Recreation Department:

This is a Family Fun Center in nearby Inwood, VA with a water park, go karts, games, etc.:
JayDee's - Home

Winchester is a VERY family-oriented place. There are festivals and fairs nearly every weekend in town or in nearby towns. There are many horse farms in the area for horse back riding. Because of it's location, there are alot of outdoor activities (nature programs, fishing, etc.). During the holidays, there are many children's activities.
