Hello everyone!

I will (hopefully) be getting a job in the Arlington area that's about a half mile walk down hill from the Courthouse metro station on Wilson Boulevard.

I'm a young female and I was just wondering if I should be concerned at all about the walk back and forth to the station? I've read that area is very safe and there's nothing to worry about but I just wanted some input. From google maps the walk down looks residential with houses on one side, and buildings on the other side.

I guess the only real thing I should be worrying about is the walk back up the hill. Or I could just walk the other way down to the Rosslyn station.

Thank you for your input.

Curious as to whom you have "heard" this from? Friends, family, coworkers? Curious as to why you don't trust them, but will listen to a bunch of internet strangers?

It's safe.

I shouldn't used the word "heard".

I should of said "read", from other posts I had found on the forum.

I could swear this exact same post was posted a couple months ago. Maybe I'm crazy.

Anyways. Yes, its fine, better than pretty much any other walk you'll ever have in the commonwealth.

I used to live in Rosslyn near the Metro and walked up and down the hill to Courthouse (and Clarendon) all the time, day and night (well, not past 2 a.m., usually). This was in the 90s, and if anything, the area is safer now.

That doesn't mean the chance for crime is nil. There was an attempted rape at N. Veitch and Wilson in May, which fortunately was stopped by passers-by and the guy was caught.

Quote:
SEXUAL BATTERY, 140531025, 1500 block of N.Veitch Street. At 3:30 am on May 31, several witnesses intervened as a subject was attempting to sexually assault a 31 year-old female victim in the bushes. Police were able to apprehend the suspect as a he attempted to flee and later learned that the suspect had followed the victim from the Metro stop. Ryan Dean, 27, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with sexual battery.
Note that was 3:30 a.m. I'd suggest it's a good idea to travel with others if you'll be out at those hours. And that's the only sex crime I found in the reports for that area for 2014.

This map, http://spotcrime.com/va/arlington links to the crime reports. Looks like most of the crimes reported along that corridor were theft from auto and other incidents that were not muggings or robberies from pedestrians.

During the day it's pretty safe. No idea about late night.

Thank you everyone.

I definitely don't plan to be walking alone in the area at 3:30 am.
Only going to the office around 8am and walking to the station around 4/5pm.

Yeah, it's safe. I walked it since my gf is going to be making the walk to work starting in August. You walk through a neighborhood with a bunch of single family houses. It's a nice walk.

Its extremely safe. If anything happens, its on the side streets that connect Wilson Blvd and Fairfax Drive. Just be street smart.
