My wife and I are thinking about buying our first home here in Winchester. We currently rent and like the area and prefer to buy in Frederick County but we are confused on what neighborhood would be the best for us. We are in our early 30's, focusing on good schools, short commutes to NOVA (for work) and really just want a family friendly area. Any ideas? We are pretty open on price. It is a matter of finding our niche. So any suggestions or any areas to totally avoid?

Thank you in advance!

Following this thread - we are also from NY, in our early 30's with 1 toddler, and currently renting in Winchester. I work from home, but my husband has to commute to Loudoun County for work. So we generally want to try and stay on the East side of town or at least with easy access to Rt 7 or Rt 50.

We like it here a lot (have been renting here just over a year), but we're still trying to figure out neighborhoods and what we want and don't want in a house.

This is all very subjective. Depends on budget, want or not want neighbors and so on. I have friends in Stephens City that love it and in my opinion it's not for me. Houses are too close together.

Historic District, Meadow Branch or Stonebrook and out Merriman's Lane but Bigfoot424 is right, mostly depends on your budget and lifestyle.

If you're interested in family neighborhoods in a good elementary school that minimize your commute, also look at the houses feeding into Greenwood Mill Elementary School. The houses are reasonable and filled with families your age. Plus you're on the eastern side of town, minutes from Rt. 7. We have several friends who live out there with elementary-age kids and love it. Also, neighborhoods like The Ravens are close to 7, as well.
