Just looking for an excuse to hate Marylanders? He posted that he already did it. Why did you ignore that? Forget it, I don't want to know.

Car got inspected today, not an issue with time or money just the wrong information from DMC, VA State and FFX County.

Virginia may be way ahead of any effort to fight this in court. This website: Virginia State Police - Safety Division says:

Virginia State Police employees cannot give legal advice, nor interpret the law for members of the public.

It also says:

If a vehicle is purchased out-of-state and then registered in Virginia, it must be inspected once it is registered in this state
Of course, I went back and reviewed your reply and I see you're not going to fight it. I posted anyways to save some future poster time.

I would be POed at that MD dealer. They most certainly know that their VA customers need a VA inspection. MD dealers sell cars to VA residents every day. No excuse not to include a notice advising VA residents of inspection requirements in with the paperwork.

Well the amount they saved me by giving me an awesome deal on the car... $50 is nothing compared to it. So live and learn. Sucks but looks like I am up a creek.

Thanks

I've bought multiple cars at multiple dealerships in MD and was never informed of the inspection requirements (although I knew it). You are correct that I'm sure they sell tons of cars to people in VA, but the VA paperwork they fill out says nothing about inspections. The OP was told by a police officer and a VA DMV representative that it wasn't needed, and if they didn't know, I'm guessing most of the sales/finance people in MD car dealerships don't know either.

Maryland does not have annual safety inspections for vehicles, so it probably isn't on their minds like it us for Virginians as well.

I agree that it would be better service for the MD dealer to inform customers, but I don't put (much of) the blame on them for this.
