I'm curious and wondered if anyone here has done this. If your child misses the cutoff date for kindergarten (my little one was born in November) and you enroll them in private kindergarten instead, will the school system accept them for 1st grade? I feel like I'm not being completely clear.. but hopefully someone understands what I'm trying to ask. For the record, I'm in no hurry for the little on to go to school, I was just curious. Thanks!

I don't know for sure, but I seem to recall reading that some school systems (though I'm not sure about Loudoun) won't admit students to first grade if they went to private kindergarten, but WILL admit to second grade if they went to private kindergarten and first grade.

I don't know if that's true or not.

If they went to an accredited kindergarten, and will be eligible for public school (5 by Sept 30), they can go to 1st grade. If the school is not accredited, they can go to first grade after an observation period. Details and list of accredited kindergartens here:

Definitely not true in Loudoun county. Due to half day public kindergarten, many here go to private kindergarten and then to public first grade.

I remember my friend's friend sent his kid to Boyd school for K and got admission for 1st grade at Loudoun County school.
