Since PA is now part of the expanded Washington Metropolitan Area, shouldn't "The DMV" be revised to "The DMVP?"

I would think that WV would have a claim on being included in a "DMVW" sooner than PA. For one, there's a MARC train that runs between Martinsburg, WV to DC. Also, as you may recall, local newscasts have been known to reference WV exurbs by name much more often than those in PA. Granted, just as some WV Panhandle residents may not make it any further east than Loudoun County, it's possible that some PA "Mason-Dixon Line" residents may not make it any further south than Montgomery County. But if PA has a claim anywhere in Maryland IMO, it would be the York, PA exurbs of Baltimore and - in a stretch, a slice of Cecil County, MD for Philadelphia/Wilmington.

For a long time, the DC television market did include one PA county, Franklin, which is north of Hagerstown. This had more to do with TV reception at the time than any economic ties though. Back when most people in Franklin County received their TV with an antenna, the VHF channels from DC were easier to receive than the UHF channels from Harrisburg.

Now that the vast majority of people in the county get their TV from cable or satellite, the county has been moved to the Harrisburg TV market, which makes more sense geographically.

Don't tell me to "please stop". Tell your fellow DMV peeps to stop plowing over South Central PA for McMansions, so the OMB doesn't keep making the DMV bigger and bigger.

Parts of pennsylvania maybe be apart of the Baltimore suburb but DC? That's just absurd and the DMV is DC and its IMMEDIATE suburbs. Arlington, montgomery, fairfax.....so yes stop. Really "DMVP"? Really....

For decades people have said DMV to refer to the DelMarVa peninsula. That is the beach areas of Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. Using DMV to refer to the Washington area started about 5 years ago. The only time you ever hear it is on urban-format radio stations in DC and PG county and the new young professionals who come to DC and erroneously think it is common usage. No person who grew up in the area would ever use that term.

Again, I think your issue is more with Baltimore than Washington. As already suggested, the DMV definition applies to the Nation's Capital rather than Charm City.

Thats interesting because I've never heard DMV used for DelMarVa. That would require people around here to actually know what the Delmarva was though.
