20% of ALL drivers will get a speeding ticket each year. If insurance went up with every ticket auto insurance would literally cost tens of thousands a person a year. I have had several tickets in my driving career and my insurance has never gone up a penny as a result, nor have I ever received any word from my insurance company about them (State Farm). Switch to a different company if yours is dumb enough to want to raise rates for one ticket.

Or perhaps just another troll.

OMG!! It took me a long time to figure out what insurance company you meant. And, now that I figured out the clue, I will have to say that we have the SAME insurer. I am shocked that they will raise your rate for one small, minor ticket. Something is left out of this story.

My insurance company did raise our rates when my daughter got a speeding ticket. It was also Blue Mess Say Say!!! Granted, she had only been driving for 3 years when she got it and it was for doing 41 in a 35 mph zone.

I also want to say that my husband got a speeding ticket in Virginia once for going 69 in a 60mph zone. That was around the Dumfries area.

I have also been on 495 early in the morning (weekends) where the speed limit is 55. I was going about 64 and was traveling with traffic and the cop pulled one of the people over who, I swear, was doing the same speed as I was. It happens.

In the past four years, I've gotten one speeding ticket and my husband has gotten two. Our insurance premium has not increased at all (State Farm).

For 5-9mph over, I would (& have) just pay the ticket and be done with it. IMO, it's not worth the hassle of taking a day off from work and sitting in traffic court for hours.

Where on the beltway was this? I can hardly ever recall seeing any speed traps on the sections I drive daily...I agree this is some bad luck for you since flow of traffic is generally 65+ MPH. But pay and move on

In Virginia, cops love to pull people over on the section between the Springfield Mixing Bowl and the Van Dorn Street Exit. That's really the only speed trap I know of though.

I have seen the cops hide on the left shoulder of the Outer Loop of 495, just around a curve. This is between the AL bridge and the new HOT lanes. I've watched them catch a few Marylanders going by there. I'll bet some of the Reckless tickets given out are from there. I don't see them there all the time, but every once in a while"
