If you move to Fairfax county you will just be living in the OC of the east coast.

Of course, I don't know how you manage that...anywhere it could be added, if they do not already have it.
Thank you for the feedback. What areas/towns could use more restaurants?

Thank you for all of your replies. We look forward to visiting the NoVa area. I've been doing quite a bit of research and am anxious to get back there. It seems that there are plenty of great schools to choose from, not to mention that it probably is a great place to grow up simply due to the historical and political significance of the area. Probably a bit more educational than Orange County. Though, as I'm walking my dog at 9:00AM in January in shorts and a Tshirt, I'm not too anxious to give up our weather here (or actually, lack of weather).

I can probably guess at a few (or more) things - but I'm curious to hear what you find the biggest differences and what we're giving up in OC. I'm trying to find reasons why we shouldn't move to a particular area.

I am selfishly pushing Burke but thats just because its close to me.
But Burke tends to be in between the areas with a lot of restaurants such as Fair Oaks and Springfield/Alexandria.

1. The weather. It is 27 degree this morning while you were walking the dog in shorts & t-shirt
2. Wide open roads. OC roads are designed to handle high volume traffic, NoVa roads were mapped out by horses.
3. OC is a "country" compared to NoVa as a "city"

Got it - thank you for that. The roads here are really good - I notice it each time I transition from OC to LA and I lose a couple of lanes on the 5.

You'll drop "the" before a route number.

Oh, I thought of something else you'll have to give up: water use restrictions.
