Hi:

I live in Aldie, VA and will have to drive to work in Gaithersburg MD. Does anyone know what the drive is like in rush hour? What are the best routes to take to and from Aldie, VA? What is the latest recommended time to leave Aldie in the morning and Gaithersburg in the afternoon to avoid some of the traffic?

Are there any other ways to get between these 2 places? Trains? Shared rides?

Thanks for any info!

Are you in real Aldie or the faux McMansion section?
I think Aldie was better 10 years ago when only rural folks traveling for a stroll knew of it and the only commuting was crossing Route 50 at Goshen Road on a tractor.

That is an awful commute. (<---- understatement)

I can't see any route that is going to be easy. If you leave by 6 am, it might be okay. In the afternoon, it's best to be across the American Legion bridge by 3 to avoid the worst. The only other thing I can think of is that the ferry to Poolesville may not save you any time over using the Beltway. That's just a guess though.

I, for the life of me, wouldn't take the beltway or the AL bridge.

I've gone from Middleburg to Urbana (via 15N, MD 28E, 85N, 80E) and it takes a easy 60 minutes. I say easy, because, besides a potential slow truck in front of you, it's beautiful country driving the entire time.

To get to Gaithersburg, you'll go 15N and then MD 28E down to Darnestown and then E to Gaithersburg. I've never taken that route, but it looks pretty rural. But that doesn't mean it doesn't back up with traffic. Off of the top of my head, I'd say 1.5 hours.

You will not find trains, busses, or any transit that will help you make this commute any easier.
