We were here last winter and only had about 1 or 2 REAL snowstorms. I am craving snow.....

It generally snows only 1-3 times per year. You'll have to head north, perhaps PA, to see some snow.

Some years we get quite a bit, but this year is predicted to be mild. I think we are supposed to get a few storms in February, and we've been getting some significant snow in March lately. But I think March will be mild, too--cold temps, but no precipitation (we are technically in a drought this year).

The average yearly snowfall in the DC area is about 18 inches, but it does tend to vary from year to year. About a dozen years ago, we got a foot of snow one day, and another foot the next day. Maybe 20 years ago, we got a foot of snow on Veteran's Day, in early November.
But snowfalls of three inches or less at a time are far more common. More than enough to close schools and create traffic nightmares.

Default not that often, but

Just flurries will lengthen your commute by at least 1/2 hour, if not more, depending on what roads you take to work.
My commute which normally takes about 20-30 minutes at 6:00 AM took 2.5 hours last December, and there wasn't a drop of snow on the road.

I'll gladly ship you a couple of feet of snow. 49.5 inches last month. 8 inches today.

Me too, Fairfax Mom! I just posted on another message board that I agreed with a blogger who wrote that NVA weather is boring!

I notice it is always damp around here - like a cooler version of a swamp - not to offend you die hard VA natives

Doesn't offend me, I like the cool humidity. Some people pay big bucks to have a "cool mist" humidifier--I just step outside. I used to get nose bleeds in California, and I could never seem to put enough lotion on my dry, itchy skin. A day like today makes me feel wonderful. I think I must have been an azalea in a former life...
