True, but I believe other supermarkets are doing the same thing, in effect. I know for a fact that whenever I go to the Safeway in Seven Corners and do self-checkout, it always asks me to click yes or no to "I brought my own bag." So instead of charging you for using a bag, it merely doesn't give you a discount for having brought one! Completely different, of course...

Default Correction and Update- No charge after all

Hi everyone,

I wish I could change the title of the thread, but I can't. I contacted Giant corporate, and this is what they said:

While we are trying to reduce the amount of plastic bags used in our operations, we do not plan to discontinue the use of paper bags, or charge for plastic bags in our stores (unless where required by local or State laws). Instead, we heavily promote use of our reusable bags and we have introduced the EcoLoop bag which we sell for 10 cents. It's a heavy duty plastic reusable bag to make it convenient for those customers who forgot their reusable bags.

I guess the manager I spoke to was confused and thought that the EcoLoop bag was replacing all other bags. Sorry about the confusion.
