I am looking for a furnished studio or one-bedroom apartment for my son who will be a summer intern at Quantico this summer. He would prefer no roommate or a room within someone's house. Are there short-term rentals for interns in this area? Thanks for any help.

You might consider looking into sub-letting an apartment from a student attending University of Mary Washington, located in Fredericksburg. Contacting their housing office may get you more information. Fredericksburg is a straight shot up Interstate 95 - about 25 miles by car, but not personally driving that not sure how long it may take in rush hour traffic. Even better, there is rail service from F'burg to Quantico - the VRE (Virginal Rail Express) which offers a monthly ticket. There is also an extended stay motel in F'burg, but I think a sub-let would be more economical as students with a 12 month lease often charge a nominal rent to have any help in paying for an otherwise empty apt in the summer. Fredericksburg is a nice, mid-size, somewhat active place, too. Good luck!

I would not recommend staying in Fredericksburg. The daily commute would be a bear unless he's willing to take VRE which may be too costly for him.

What is his budget? And will he have a car?

I suggest looking on Craigslist. I put "Quantico" in the search filter and there were a few things that popped up. Not furnished but they do a month-to-month lease.

QUANTICO BASE MAIN ENTRANCE

And then this one:

RENOVATED 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, For Only $745.00/mo!!

Concur. Don't go south of Quantico unless he wants to sit in some major traffic. He can north a little ways with no issues although some neighborhoods north of Q town are not very good. Maybe look for basement type rentals along 234 down to Montclair. Might need to employ a real estate agent to pinpoint this much though.

Look on Craigslist. He can probably get a pretty good deal on a furnished basement somewhere around there. It'll be a little cheaper than most other parts of Northern Virginia.

Probably wouldn't be too hard to get someone to do month-to-month because the demand for subletting down there isn't nearly as high as a lot of other parts of NOVA.

Thanks for all the help! He does have a car and was also thinking about traffic issues to be aware of, so your points are helpful. The town of Quantico sounds like an interesting possibility, but it looks like we're looking too early, so we'll keep searching.

Thanks so much!
