There was a column in the Washington Post today illustrating some of the reasons why the Redskins may consider moving their stadium to VA versus moving it to DC or staying in MD.

A move to Virginia might be best for both Daniel Snyder and the city - The Washington Post

Quote:
Some people will tell you this has been Virginia’s franchise for some time. Then the move of training camp to Richmond only solidified that, if hiring the brother of a former Virginia congressman and governor as team president didn’t already tip you off. It was only a matter of time before the entire operation took more root in Virginia, as current governor Terry McAuliffe, a Democrat, became one of few elected officials to say publicly that he had no problem with the squad’s controversial name. Lest we not forget that Snyder donated $25,000 to McAuliffe’s campaign.

All this is to say that a move to the Commonwealth makes obvious sense for the franchise at this point. The mythical link of civic pride in the name “Washington” to being located within actual city limits died long ago for this football team. The political priority of keeping an NFL team is drastically lower when the pro baseball, basketball, hockey and soccer teams all now play here. Would it alienate Maryland fans? Maybe, but no more so than the current situation already does for fans on the other side of the Potomac River.
What are your thoughts on this? Would you be okay with seeing a possible 100,000 stadium in Loudoun County? Are you concerned about the traffic, the cost, the name controversy or anything else that make you hesitate on this move, or are you simply for the Redskins having a stadium in NoVA?

I think it would be ridiculous to put the stadium so far out in the suburbs but I guess that makes it okay with me because I wouldn't have to deal with the traffic.

Snyder is a grease ball. He can move the team to LA and change the name.

I'd like to see them back in DC.

I don't want to have to deal with a bunch of drunk drivers leaving after the games on Sunday, although the fines would generate millions for the county.

Would they change the name to the Virginia Rebels?

I also would like to see them back in DC. Any plan for VA died when they developed Potomac Yards as I think that would have been the best place outside of DC.

When they move they should change the name.

They belong in the District. Change the name to the Washington Monuments, and build a new stadium where RFK sits.

Two things to consider about the RFK site:

1) The controversy with the name is a sore spot for relations between Snyder and DC leadership
2) RFK sits on Federally owned land, so being able to develop it will be even more complicated.

Bad idea. Loudoun county is way too far out.

Keep them in Landover or find them a place somewhere in DC, or closer in in VA

No to VA. Back to DC would be ideal. If not keep them in MD and they can deal with the jacked up game day traffic.
