Could anyone tell me if there are any quiet beaches in Northern Virginia with sand and waves? I do not like touristy areas with a boardwalks and crowded beaches. I know there are many bay areas but I love crashing waves which bays do not have. I would like to find a quiet beach and purchase a home there.

And if there were...I can GUARANTEE that they would NOT be "quiet"!

About bays not having crashing waves...it depends on the weather. The lower Chesapeake Bay can get VERY rough...especially when there is a hurricane out in the Atlantic. The storm can be many hundreds of miles out to sea but it's still forcing water up the Bay. We've motored out of our creek on bright, sunshiny days (without checking the marine weather, LOL) only to find 6 or 8 foot seas running on the Bay. Vey uncomfortable...even aboard a 57 foot boat!

the closest thing you will find is something down south on the potomac river.

this park is about 15 minutes down the road from me and the water is calm and its usually pretty quiet. stafford is a stretch to be considered northern virginia and you will have to battle 95/rt 1 to get there.

The fine Northern Virginians of City-Data circa. 2009 tried to get behind creating a beach in NoVA, but alas we never followed up with it. It could have been darn successful.

Even a Great Wolf Lodge would be good.

Lol! Virginia Beach is the only REAL beach! The rest are "RIVER" beaches...which are NOT beaches (IMO!!!).. if you want sand and surf...head south...or over to Maryland.

If you want real waves you have to go to the ocean, closest being VA Beach. Ocean City, MD is fairly close. Neither is particularly quiet. If you can do without the waves you can definitely find closer beaches on the bay, like Colonial Beach. That place is pretty quiet.
