Hello,

I've been researching public transportation options from various places to Crystal City. I like Stafford as a place to possibly live, but it appears the only way to Arlington is via VRE. This is fine with me, but there aren't really any places to live really close to the Brooke Rd. station. (I'd like to be able to walk/bus to the VRE once in a while).

I've come across this ...
http://www.ridefred.com/content/Sche...%20Maps/D6.pdf
This route seems to connect two commuter lots, but I can't find any info about them. I figure if they are indeed commuter lots, there is a chance a bus goes from them to DC. Does anyone out there use these lots? If so, I'd be interested if there are public transportation options here. Also, the route shown that goes into Aquia Harbor would be IDEAL for me, but unfortunately I can't find any info about that route anywhere (I guess perhaps it has been cancelled).

Other than that, if anyone has ideas on how to commute using public transportation from within Stafford County to the VRE stations or otherwise toward DC please let me know.

Thanks for reading

You have to use a private company for express bus service between Stafford and DC: Martz Group Virginia. Stafford County doesn't believe in public transit. I think a monthly pass is about $300.

The website isn't working for me at the moment FYI.

I don't have any info for you, but have you looked into slugging? That's another option for getting from Stafford into Arlington.

Martz just severely cut their service I believe. Slugging would be the best option.

Are you 100% locked in to the Brooke Rd. Station? There is a brand new subdivision directly across the street from the Leeland Rd. station. It is oh so cleverly named "Leeland Station".

I know there is also a FRED line that feeds into some of the VRE stations, but parking is free and plentiful at both Brooke and Leeland, so I have never actually looked into it.

Also a big +1 for slugging. Check out slug-lines.com if you are not familiar. It is free and usually faster than VRE.

Just to close the loop, in case someone comes across this thread in the future, the route referenced here (FRED Stafford County Express) appears to run in between the two commuter lots collectively known as the 610 Slug Lines. I'm not there yet, so I'm not sure if the route actually runs, but between the two lots appears to be the intention.

IMHO, it would be better for the bus to run between the 610 and 630 Slug Lines.

Now if I could only figure out where the heck to live!
