I like Whole Foods much more than Wegmans but both are pretty good if you're looking for quality food.

One of my favorite memories of that Wegmans is from last year- a middle-aged woman with a full cart spotted me and my family (two young children, and about 15 items) walking to a checkout and literally sprinted to cut in front of us. Just another day in friendly Fairfax County.
It's super far, but if you're ever out near Dulles go to the Wegman's that's in Ashburn/Sterling. It's amazing!! Like Disneyland

I've never been to that one. I've been to the Wegman's in Gainesville once. That was nice, better than most Whole Foods (the Vienna and Falls Church Whole Foods are fairly crappy) and certainly better than the Fairfax Wegman's. It's just not good enough to inspire me to regularly travel 45 minutes one way just to get there.

To me, the thing that really puts the Fair Lake Whole Foods over the top are the bars and restaurants inside of it. We go there fairly often just to eat, as the food and drink in the restaurants is of good quality and reasonably priced.

From the sound of it, the new Tysons Whole Foods will be like an even larger version of Fair Lakes. That would be a grocery store worth getting excited over, especially if you live within walking distance of it.

I agree the Fair Lakes WF is the best WF I've been to in the country. It's amazing. it has a good crowd and the people who work there are pleasant. I look forward to the Tyson's one. I've been a WF fan for years. It's incredibly expensive but I just love shopping there.

The Fairfax Wegman's is a nightmare, as a few others said on this thread, the people who go there are rude and it's overcrowded. The Wegman's in Ashburn/Sterling is less crowded, much much friendlier staff and parking, has a better layout, and is open 24/7

I'm partial to Whole Foods myself. I currently go to the Silver Spring one and patiently waiting for the one in Riverdale Park, MD to open. What sells me on Whole Foods and Wegmans is the way they present their meats and seafood. The presentation gives yo the impression that they have a butcher shop and seafood shop within the store. Everything is not packaged in a display case. I also like Whole Food's prepared food section (hot and cold). Great selection with great taste. Safeway, Giant, Shoppers, and others just can't compare to the quality and variety.

As far as organic food is concerned, My Organic Market outshines them all. I never have to worry about picking something non-organic or natural. That's all they really have. In Whole Foods you have to be careful. While they have tons of organic and natural products, they also have non organic products. In Wegmans, they have a little organic section and organic products sprinkled throughout the store. So, that's even more of a chore.

And the prices at Yes! Organic are just off the charts.

I'm very interested in what the layout of the Tyson's Whole Foods will look like. The executive seems to be pretty excited about it and says that it will be innovative. I do like the mini bar in the ALexandria Whole Foods. It may be quite lame drinking a beer in the middle of a grocery store. Perhaps if they put the bar next to the edge of the grocery store by the street, perhaps it wouldn't seem as though you're having a cold one next to the dairy section of a grocery store.

Could they be going after Wegman's with the 70k sqft layout of the Tyson's store? Perhaps.
