What about double decking I 66 to allow for more volume of cars, trucks? Texas is doing it big time as is Georgia
& Calif. The Va legislators & the Big Bucks Highway lobby would rather add more lanes than be creative and do
some planning for the future. The idea anything will change in VA as it relates to NoVa transportation is wishful thinking.

Yeah, parts of Texas are just awful with traffic. Where I'm from (suburb of Ft. Worth), they've widened the loop around the city to a ridiculous degree, but the traffic is no better. Meanwhile, my friend lives in a SFH neighborhood of Dallas proper, and he has no problems driving elsewhere within the city to get to work.

Better than the do-nothing attitude many here take. And it doesn't take neighborhoods. You can't have it every way. The first picture looks cleaner than Springfield.

Places like Texas, georgia, and socal have 22 lane freeways because public transportation is virtually nonexistent.

Socal is vastly improving unlike Atlanta and the Texas cities but thats reason #1 i hate all those cities.

But is it really better than doing nothing? If we do nothing, congestion increases--until people decide it's not worth it. They either get jobs closer to home or get a home closer to the job. Then congestion decreases.

We could widen the highways, but then they'll just get congested again as more new housing is built.

Or we can find a way to ban all new housing in the exurbs--but that would take multiple legislative acts and probably go through litigation. And realistically, it wouldn't even get that far.

Hey, is this where I point out growth in the outer burbs has saved the inner burbs $$$ on schools they don't have to build?

I live in Frederick and work in Leesburg. Am I an evil exurbanite contributing to all that makes America bad?

Of course not. I live in Arlington, but we don't need any more people either!

I would draw a 50-mile radius around DC and make outsiders get visas to enter. If they stay without permission, they get arrested and jailed. In Maryland.

We would get more tax revenue to pay for those schools if they lived here too...

No one said that you're an evil exurbanite.
