I'm re-doing my kitchen and I see a lot of seemingly good specials out there for granite counters w/ installation. Does anyone have any experience to share, either exceedingly good or exceedingly bad, with some of the local outfits? I will get my contractor's input, of course, but I don't really trust yelp reviews and hoped to get some more input. Thanks!

Don't use Counterintelligence. They installed a defective product. We had a hard time getting them to replace it. They did only after H ome D**** (our supplier) put pressure on them. If it had been just us, they would not have done anything about it.

I have had wonderful experience with the counter intelligence folks (in 2012, compared to above post). Their computer measuring system gets ever angle properly programmed and provides the critical first step correctly. But their install team was unbelievable. The assurance that their finished product is done correctly is their goal. They stayed until 9pm to ensure the job was completed. We had over 50 sq feet so there was more challenges than average. Having experience with so many other fields (hvac, plumbers, electricians, flooring, windows, garage door, etc), this project was actually enjoyable.

Creative InCounters just did a great job on my counters. One thing that I really liked is that they sent me a photo of how the actual counters would look - where the granite veins would exactly be. After I got the first draft, I spoke with the layout person about how I wanted the Island to be laid out and they sent me a revised layout in just a few minutes that was exactly what I was looking for.

Like johnsonkk, I also had a very good experience last year with Counter Intelligence (the Silver Spring office, hired via the Home Depot in Reston). FYI, my installation was Silestone, not granite, for a bathroom vanity top. The technician who came to take the measurements was thoroughly professional; the two installers did the job perfectly in less than an hour (it was in fact the part of the bathroom renovation that went the most smoothly); and the CI office staff I dealt with extremely helpful and responsive. I gave the company an excellent review on Washington Consumer Checkbook. It's possible different people may have different experiences, but I wouldn't hesitate at all to recommend CI.

would love to see some granite seam photos from anyone in this thread, if not too much trouble. I view so many homes, and am always finding myself checking the seams to (typically) see how horribly done they are.

Sorry I can't show you any seam photos - my whole kitchen was done without any seams.

Typical panel is 110 to 120 inches long. The run of the counters dictates whether there will be seams or not

The measuring and original install was fine. The stone had a defect from the cutting or polishing. They tried to fix it by hand polishing the area. It came out worse. They then denied that anything was wrong and were unresponsive to calls and emails. Only after getting Home Depot to come out and look did they agree to replace the work.
They also damaged our cabinets when they did replace the defective tops.
I'm sure they do some great installs. But if you have a problem or follow up with the work they may not be the best company to work with.

We used Granite Expo several years ago when we redid the counter tops at our old house. Their pricing was half of what some others quoted and the seam was almost invisible; but we did Silestone and I don't know if Granite seams up different?
