Hi!

I just moved to the area recently with my boyfriend (both of us received federal govt jobs) and we obviously do not know where to go for anything. We have a collection of Oaxacan carvings, and we love going to stores which sell the carvings and other forms of Mexican folk art. Does anyone know of a store in NoVa or DC that would be a good place for us to go?

Thanks!

This might not be exactly what you're looking for, but you may find it interesting anyway. Dumbarton Oaks in Georgetown has an outstanding collection of pre-Columbian art (http://www.doaks.org/museum/pco_collection/ - broken link), and they have some neat stuff in their gift shop. (They also have beautiful gardens, which have an admission fee - but the museum itself is free.)

Also, the National Museum of the American Indian includes all of the Americas. It has two great shops, and delicious food in its restaurant.

I was going to suggest the Native American Smithsonian Museum too! Also, Eastern Market often has crafts from various cultures.

Check out the Torpedo Factory in Old Town Alexandria where you can find just about anything art related. Sometimes you will catch an artist at work in their studio! Also, Old Town has plenty of top notch restaurants and the Torpedo Factory is along the waterfront so you can catch some natural scenery, too

Torpedo Factory Art Center

Also, don't be envious that I'm in AZ right now where I'm surrounded by Mexican folk art heh heh
