Why is there so many damn flies in NOVA. We live in Frederick county to narrow it down. All I do all day is run around swatting flies. Never had this problem in Pa and NY. As a matter of fact never seen this problem anywhere I have been. It's crazy!!! Maybe northern Va has the perfect climate for flies?

I haven't had any either. I think I've seen one so far. Are then outside, or in your house?

That's insulting. But no, it is not me.

They come in the house, they are outside when sitting on our back deck. When we went to Hunters Head Tavern for lunch with my family that was visiting they were all over. Went to Chipolte today in Winchester and there were a bunch there. I noticed this last year too. When I go up to NY during the week for work, no flies. When we go up to Pa to visit family, no flies.

Maybe it has something to do with a particular area. I heard a bunch about stink bugs the past few summers, but I don't think I've actually seen more than 5 or so.

I have been to places where this is an issue. I'm in Prince William County--have been sitting outside every day and nothing at all. I did have one fly in my house yesterday but that's not unusual to get a fly in the house int he summer.

I would say this must be some sort of "thing" in your particular area right now.

I used to live in Northern Maine and, OMG, the flies we would get in the month of August were unbelievable.

I hardly see flies, my house is surrounded by trees, bushes, flowers. I used to see nats until 2-3 weeks before, now they are no where to be found.

If you live very close to a wooded area, then probably that's the reason.

Not sure why but it doesn't appear to be a NOVA issue. I just moved from NOVA and had no issues there. I work in Front Royal and I've noticed the flies are worse than I've ever seen since starting here in 2010. We just moved to Shenandoah Valley a few weeks ago and we have a lot of flies out there but we are surrounded by farms so no surprise here. I went into Martin's in FR the other day to pick up some donuts for the class and the 10-15 flies in the donut case turned me off. I wrote the manager and he said they've been working on the problem, along with other area businesses, to fix the problem. I noticed the next time I went in there they have a large fan blowing over the donuts which actually appears to work.

Not sure why this year seems so bad.
