Hello. My wife and I are due to move to the D.C. area for a new job in Alexandria. We're in our early 30s with no kids and I'm hoping to find some suggestions on good places to look for housing options.

What we need: First, we'll need something walkable. I am visually impaired and will be taking the metro to work, so a walkable area is essential. My wife works from home, so we will need to find at the very least a 2 bedroom apartment.

I know affordable is a very relative term, especially in such an expensive area. Our housing budget will be between $2000 and $2400. My guess is this would preclude a three bed apartment or renting a townhome, but I'm hopeful that we can at least find a 2 bed apartment for that amount. We could potentially spend more, depending on what, if any, utilities might be included, but this is my rough starting point.

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

The orange line corridor. My building in Arlington is pretty nice. Called Park Adams.

I'll suggest Crystal City. Practically everything you would need is in the Underground. The Crystal Plaza apartments are within your budget for a 2-bedroom place.

If you want a short commute, Alexandria has a very walkable area called Old Town. If you want more information you'll get more help on the forum for Northern Virginia, which includes Alexandria. This forum is for DC the city proper.

I suggest the area around Braddock Road Metro (Del Ray/North Old Town). Here are some that I found on CraigsList.

Braddock Road Metro

2BD/1BA w Balcony with Parking, available furnished or unfurnished!

LAST 2BR!!!! ALL UTILITIES INCLUDED

Also, the Asher Apartments are close by and the Meridian at Braddock have a couple of 2BRs for less than $2400.
