Default Hoping to get info from the NOVA Forum

Does anyone on this forum know anything about the Northern Neck, specifically a town called Tappahannock? I'm asking this forum, because I know a lot of Nova people go down there or own second homes down there. I haven't gotten any response from the general VA forum (it's not as active as this one).

I have a friend who is a single woman who is thinking about moving there with her daughter so that the daughter can attend a private school there. They want to know if the area is safe for two single women. We checked the crime stats on City-Data, but this town is so small that it's easy for statistics to be misleading.

Anyone have experience with this town?

Gosh, I've been there a bunch of times - I can't imagine Tappahannock being dangerous at all. At. All. Your friend should be fine. (Same true of Montross, Warsaw...)

I'm glad to hear this. A few other people have said the same thing. I'm going down there tomorrow to check it out.

Crime stats can be very difficult to use when your talking about a small town. Tappahannock has a population of about 2,000. In a town that size, a single murder or a single assault will make the percentages look alarming. The problem with stats is that they never tell you the story about what happened (so you can't get perspective on how dangerous a town it might be).
