I have been carpooling from Ashburn to Foggy Bottom since 1996. Of course, I take the toll road and 66 inside the Beltway which reduces the time to about 45 minutes inbound. On days when my carpool is not functioning, I get up a little early and take the toll road to 123 and drive through Mclean to the GW Parkway. You can exit at the TR Bridge and take 50 up into Arlington. I did that a few times this summer, and made it in fairly quickly (about 45 min); but things really slow down when everyone returns to work in the Fall.

Thanks for the feedback all. I was leaning towards the metro as well. It seems like it'll give me the *most* consistent commute at around an hour each way (including driving to/from the station).

The reason this came up is that I'm looking at a job that is right by that metro station. Now the question becomes if they will be able to pay me enough to compensate for my time and travel costs :P. I'll figure that out later though.

My current job is in Tyson's corner, which is about a ~25-35 minutes commute depending on what time I get on 7 now.
