True--but a big chunk of the population does, and they likely will have plans to be with family that day. If she's from a culture that doesn't celebrate it and everyone to be invited is the same, then I guess it works. (I myself am sort of agnostic, but we still do stuff around Christmas because it's fun and because a lot of the trappings have either become secular or have secular origins.)

My suggestion is to call around to the different Afghan banquet halls in the area. They're large enough and may not have the issue of a skeleton crew that other places would have.
