My fulltime job was driving 5 days a week all day all over nova. Traffic was backed up regularly on the major highways even with no construction or accident.

No kidding. Construction is just as bad as traffic a lot of times.

There aren't any huge construction projects at the moment, but when they were building the 495 and 95 express lanes, there was constantly traffic from lane closures.

People who live off of 66 will get to enjoy this when they start building the HOT lanes on 66 in 2017.

I've been driving all over the area too. It was part of my job. I have lived in 5 different areas around the DC Area over the past 18 years (Fairfax County[Alexandria], 2 locations in Prince George's, Gaithersburg, and Loudouon, while working in DC, Arlington, Lanham and all over - I've seen it all)Backups were regular, yes, but it was still possible to get around easily during certain off-peak hours.

Right now, according to Google Maps, there are few backups in the entire region. (1:30 pm)

Traffic in Nova is beyond rediculous. That is all.

After moving from Fairfax to Florida this summer, I found this thread intertaining and reminds me why we moved. I guess the OP was scared away, but my two cents are it would be a horrible commute. Our son did an internship at NIST during the summer, driving from Braddock Road on the beltway to Gburg and he left about 6:30 in the morning and didn't get back until about 8 pm. He would spend an hour and a half at the gym rather than sit in traffic two ways everyday.

I hopped on 95N yesterday at 1 PM, heading to our Tyson's office, hopping on from Rt. 123. No sooner than clearing the Rt. 1 exit, gridlock. 3 lanes closed due to accident at Springfield Mall exit (long back up). Tripled my expected drive time. Only saw two trolls. They were by the bridge.

Rush hour traffic is predictably bad, apart from that traffic is not very bad in terms of gridlock. It does remain heavy, but keeps moving during the day (apart from wrecks and rubber necks). I personally feel like it is getting better with more people telecommuting and the opening of the express lanes.
