Years and years ago, I remember hearing people say "Y'all" frequently in this area. Now its almost always "guys" or "you guys" People say "You Guys" for male or female. Is it because wer'e so close to the North? Or what happened? I normally say You Guys, but I say "Y'all" out of course of habit from my youth.

I would agree that there are many many transplants. My ear also doesn't pick up on y'all since I use it myself and grew up with it. All other languages have a you plural. It seems like it fills a linguistic hole.

Here since 73, from further south, and still say it as well.

Born and raised in NOVA, and I didn't pick up y'all until I moved to NC in my 20's. It was always you all or you guys.

I still say it, though I also say "you guys." What throws my wife is when I explain that "all o' y'all" is also an accepted form of address back home.
