Hi All, I stumbled upon this forum by accident and read a few comments that were of interest and decided I would put up a thread. I'm in the process of exploring a tech job in the Reston, VA area. What are some good places to live if I had to commute to Reston, VA on a daily basis? Also, is the traffic as bad when traveling to Reston, VA. I know from personal experience that traveling to DC is horrid, but not sure about within VA. I would imagine so as Reston is very close to DC, but please confirm.
Also, what is the average price for a 2 bdr condo in the Reston or Fairfax county area. I'd like to stay around the $150-175k range if possible. Let me know what you think? Thanks in advance. |

You'll have a pretty reasonable commute from Fairfax, Reston, Herndon, Centreville and Chantilly. Believe it or not there are 2 bedroom homes in your price range.

Cascades is 6 miles. I used to drive to Reston during rush hour--it was a straight shot down Fairfax County Pkwy and took about 15 minutes. Your best bet, though, is to live right in Reston itself.

I live in Chantilly (near the intersection of Pleasant Valley Road and Route 50, just over the Fairfax County border in Loudoun County) and I work in Reston. If I leave the house by 7:15 am, I can get to my office in Reston in about 20 minutes. However, if I were to leave after 7:45 am, it would take me at least 30 minutes. The traffic gets worse between 8-9 am.
If you are single, you may want to live in Reston itself, so you are closer to the town center. Where I live is true suburbia, so not sure how single people would like it. |

I agree with everyone here...great ideas.
It's a great market out here for buyers right now. You might be able to find something close to your range.I think you are looking more at $175-200,000...though if you want something decent and updated in Reston as far as a 2b. |
