I recently moved to NOVA for a job. I've met a lot of people at work but on the weekends I find myself not knowing what to do since I don't really have anyone to show me around. Any suggestions on things someone new to the area should definitely check out?

My gosh! Where do I start? This area is a top destination for visitors to this country.

First of all, where do you live, and what do you like to do? I would start with the stuff nearby to you and work your way outward to day trips to Baltimore, Frederick, Cape May, Richmond, Norfolk, etc.

This area is loaded with free things to do, and not so free things as well. See this site for starters....

I would also find a meetup group for some things that interests you (e.g., wine). See

Another idea is to sign on as a crew member for sailing trips. I think that they advertise for Thursday night crew on their bulletin board on site, they are located near Reagan National Airport.

Lots of bike paths around DC/NoVA. I'd get a bike and maybe a small boat (canoe or kayak) and go paddling on the Potomac. In the meantime, you can always walk/run on the paths.

Skiing/snowboarding (as noted above) is great in nearby PA and even western MD.
