Hi, does anybody know why this district has a lot of open teacher positions? Are they really expanding, or the teacher turnover is higher? I had an idea of moving in this area, but I want to be sure that I will get an employment. What are the good and not so good high schools there?

PWC is always expanding with its growth. I have a niece who moved here from another state where she was a teacher and she seems to enjoy being here and says she'd never go back. She teaches at a HS outside of Manassas. I'm sure through attrition and continued growth there are always positions opening.

There is growth in the area this increased population. A new high school is opening in the fall but don't know the number of teachers that it takes for a new high school that will have 1,500 new students.

Not sure about the teachers but lots of administrators were retiring at the schools that I'm familiar with and they certainly were retiring " young" which allows growth in that area too.

Prince William is the second largest county in the state so it makes sense.

Also, likes it's been mentioned, there's a new high school opening too.

Can anyone compare working in PWC to FCPS? I've worked in FCPS (didn't care for it), but wonder if PWC is any better?

Thanks everybody for replying. It really makes a difference to hear from people who know somebody or know the area.

I see school locations on the map in area that is west of Manassas, and south, in Woodbridge, suburban, as far as I see on the map. How is this area? Is it expensive to live?

I live in western PWC. It's inexpensive by DC standards, but still much more expensive than when I recently lived in flyover country.

Is this a good area, I mean outdoors, entertainment, walkable areas, or is just family oriented? Are the winters very cold, snow problems? Can you tell, what is a good area to rent, for a married couple, no kids.
