I usually pay my traffic tickets, especially when I am at fault. But this time I decided to go to court since police officer was in the wrong. I was issued a “failure to obey highway sign” citation without any inquiry from trooper K.M.R. Francis why I was sitting in my car on the shoulder of the road. Since I had a valid reason to be there and the traffic sign read "emergency stopping only", I decided to go to court and fight the ticket since it became a matter of principle rather than money. When I told the judge that I was never asked by police why I was sitting on the highway shoulder, trooper K.M.R. Francis stated that not only did she ask me why I stopped my car there, but also that I started arguing with her right then and there, which was nonsense. As a professional in the legal field, I deal a lot with police departments and am always respectful and grateful for the work that police officers do. The judge did not even hesitate who to believe in the court room: he restated my ticket and consderably increased my fine. Simple as that. When I asked a court clerk about appeal process, she told me that my fine could increase up to 2x times during the appeal. At that point I decided that it was not worth my time and money anymore to fight a lying officer and going against the system. This is my story of trying to make our world more just and fair.

Why didn't you present proof of your emergency?
