Right, I'm just starting to learn about the COL differences between Lansing, where I had a huge 1 bedroom for $600, to NoVA where I'd need more than double that.

I don't mind a 30-50 minute commute, so I guess I'd want to move to a nice town west of fairfax and pay around $1000.

If you want to spend on the lower end of housing, my suggestion would be to look for a housing share - rent out a basement or share a townhouse with one or two others. I'm sure you can find plenty of listings on craigslist for that. It is what MANY twenty somethings in this area do - called a "group house". Great way to meet people too.

I am looking to buy a condo in the Fairfax area. I am looking at two developments one is Fairfax Ridge and the other Legato Corner. Is there anything I should know about these developments that would be helpful?
