Please give me feedback on moving to Sterling Va. I have been offered a job there. I was not looking to make a move from NC so I need to weigh this out. Thanks!

Depends on your budget. There are lovely neighborhoods in the Sterling area and less-than-desirable areas.

Is the actual job in Sterling? Again, depending on housing budget, you can spread out to Ashburn, Reston, etc. and still be within a reasonable commute.

It would be helpful to give a big more information: house budget, size of family, amenities desired, distance willing to commute to work (probably time more than miles as traffic here is awful). Etc.

Best of luck.

family size 1
job is in Sterling
I would like to keep it at $2,000 or less rent. I would like a 2/3 br for visiting family.
I hate commutes so I don't want to do that unless Sterling is undesirable. I will be visiting in a couple of weeks and need to know what to focus on.
Is all traffic awful?

Single with a 2K budget and a job in Sterling? I'd target the Reston Town Center area. Commute to Sterling (depending on where) shouldn't be bad, at all.

^^ What spencgr said, especially if you are in the 20-30 age range.

Yes, all traffic is awful.

If you want a very walkable area with lots of restaurants and shopping, then Reston Town Center area would be a good bet. But know that it's a very congested area. There are other parts of the area (particularly in Sterling) that are less congested in terms of the immediate neighborhood. But you will not be able to escape traffic in the area.

A 2 bdrm should be do-able around $2000 in the RTC area. Three bed will be a little more difficult (but not impossible). Your money will go further over toward Potomac Falls or Dulles Town Center.

You need to add in monthly parking fees into your utility costs/fees

Yes for Reston Town Center; but I can't imagine any fees with a home in Sterling, Herndon, or Ashburn. And certainly not with a work location in Sterling.

I agree with the others - Reston Town Center area will be a great place with a reasonable commute to Sterling. I found one three bedroom option and a bunch of two bedroom options for you to check out.

This is the 3 bedroom option - older home in Lake Anne (location of a fabulous farmers market on Saturdays in the summer)
1745 WAINWRIGHT DR, RESTON, VA 20190 | MLS FX9786126 | Listing Information | MRIShomes.com

The next two are located right in the middle of Reston Town Center and they include parking fees in the rent. Note that Reston Town Center has recently started charging parking fees. Your guests will be paying $2/hour to visit you on weekdays - with free parking on weekends.
12001 MARKET ST #319, RESTON, VA 20190 | MLS FX9838006 | Listing Information | MRIShomes.com
12001 MARKET ST #T41, RESTON, VA 20190 | MLS FX9820397 | Listing Information | MRIShomes.com

This are both located just outside the heart of Reston Town Center (parking will not be an issue at these locations).
12004 TALIESIN PL #22, RESTON, VA 20190 | MLS FX9830709 | Listing Information | MRIShomes.com
