Hokiefan.

Here in Toronto, the apt mangers put up notices that say.

Tomorrow, park in the neighbourhood, the plow will be here after 9 am...... if you car isn't moved out of the parking lot , you will be plowed in. Works quite well. And makes it easier to do the work, with out dodging parked cars.

Of course this is a city where we have municipal sidewalk plows that clear them after each snow fall and sand/salt them at the same time, as needed. We do winter rather well.

If we get the bad snow that others have mentioned, you would be welcome in zip code 22202. We have alleys that Arlington County never touches (despite garages that face the alley--so cars are trapped in the garages after heavy snow), as well as side streets that seem to be near the bottom of the list, and a few (mostly short) driveways. Houses are close together so you don't have to drive a long distance to get the next customer. If you're willing also to shovel or snow blow sidewalks and paths to the house, people would likely happily pay for that too. Many in the neighborhood are middle-aged or older, so not as spry as in their youth, and there aren't many teenagers or landscape services nearby and happy to do this work.

Thanks for the offer.....BUT

I live in Toronto, so I don't think that the guys at Customs and Border Patrol would let me do that (smile ). Something about not having a work permit.

On the subject of city snow clearing . Toronto has about 800 of it's own plow and salter trucks, and a further 300 sidewalk plows. The objective is to clear all main roads in 8 hours after it stops snowing , including all TTC bus and street car routes. In the next 12 hours all secondary roads and rear lanes.

We also have brine trucks that spread beet juice before the ice starts to accumulate. This breaks up the ice formation on bridges and overpasses. The city also has the ability to call on about 300 private dump trucks and front end loaders to move snow to vacant city property, to create snow dumps.

Here is a link to the Toronto city snow plow gang , with 24 trucks, clearing all 8 lanes of the 401 highway in one pass at 60 mph. The 401 is the busiest highway in North America, with a total of 16 lanes at one point, . 8 in each direction.

link to the snow plow team. watch the whole thing it is only 4 minutes long.

They do a section of about 5 miles in one direction than turn around and go back on the other side.

Don't answer a question with a question, OP is looking for advice not judgement.
