WTOP now has 5sec mini-ads along with their regular ads.

"Glass enclosed radio center brought to you by Mega Windows. For all your window needs, buy Mega Windows"
"Fed by Jared Subs. When you're hungry, Jared Subs"
"weather by Stan's Roofing. When you need a new roof, try Stan's Roofs"
or something like that

How many minutes of news is WTOP down to per half hr?
14min? the other 16 min is ads? (or feels like that)

Alternatives to WTOP for news + traffic?

WTOP is the best in the area imo but it really frustrates me how they squeeze in extra commercials right before doing the traffic report so now you have to wait an extra minute before hearing it.

First world problems though lol.

I was going to say WAMU as well.

Back to WTOP I am pretty sure they added the extra mini commercials because they are a union shop and therefor have to sell as much as they can for payroll purposes. Then again non-union radio stations like what is happening out in Winchester and Hagerstown are doing more/less the same thing. Maybe it's a commercial radio thing. Sell as much as you can and what you can.

103.5 ( don't know their W number) is more news but also has commercials.

If you listen to IHeart radio, they play past hits of a selected artist from 40 years and repeat THAT for weeks on end. Satellite radio also has tons of commercials and like cable, you're paying for those channels. It gets frustrating.

Maybe just use google maps app on phone for traffic or Waze if it's all about traffic that you are seeking.

WAMU doesn't really do traffic reports anymore I think.

What satellite channels have tons of commercials? I have it and, while I've come across a few that seem to hawk nutritional supplements every 30 minutes, most of them don't at all. But I don't listen to the news stations so maybe they do it?

It is the news channels. The sports channels. Same channels as you'd expect on TV that have commercials.
