Quiet place for July 4? (Springfield, Fairfax: hotels, neighborhoods, live in)

Good morning, all--we live in DC and July 4 is truly horrid in our neighborhood. Starts around 7pm and goes on until 4am, shakes the house, sounds like the world is ending. Escaped last year down to Stafford, but looking for something closer this time for us and our two dogs. Recommendations for a relatively quiet area? A local fireworks display in the distance with a beginning and end is fine, just can't deal with the all-night-up-against-the-house nonsense.

Do you think the area around the Springfield Town Center would be reasonable?

Try Merrifield's Mosaic District. Springfield is an enclosed mall, but Merrifield is open and so you can wander with the dogs \, eat on the different patios, etc., to some extent. Also, Old Town is dog-friendly but will probably be busier than Mosaic.

Thanks, I was wondering about Merrifield. Will check it out. I was thinking that mall area of Springfield because it's pretty industrial and I thought there may not be a lot of activity. We're both working the 4th and 5th, really just need a place to be from around 7pm until the next day in peace.

I agree that's you'd be pretty safe there due to lack of housing neighborhoods.

Believe me, I'm out in the 'burbs and almost always take the 5th off because my neighbors shoot fireworks all night long and keep me up (as well as when I had dogs--they were a mess).

The wife and I will be in Baudette, MN all next week. Small town on the Canadian border with no traffic lights. They do have a small town parade and fairly impressive fireworks display for such a small town. (Not trying to rub it in)

Maybe Crystal City? Stay in one of the airport hotels on a high level floor.

For New Year's, we stayed at the Westin by Dulles to get away from neighbor noise, and it was blissfully peaceful.

We stayed there on NYE too. Dead quiet on 8th floor but did not see HokieFan in the pool so feel somewhat cheated

Know this late for this thread, but try a forested or heavily wooded area for next year. It hardly safe to have fireworks shooting up to the sky with lots of trees around. My own neighborhood in Fairfax restricts even sparklers to be used with the heavy three cover.

So, your reccomendation is to stand in the woods all night?

Depending on the area, you might find some lodging there, such as cabins for nightly rental.
